Therapy rooted in relationship

Healing from trauma can feel like a long road. This is why I believe it is imperative to make space for joy and creativity throughout the process; therapy isn’t just about healing from your past, but reconnecting to who you are and feeling invigorated in your life.

I operate from a strengths-based perspective, and strive to support you and how your brain works (rather than trying to change who you are.) Throughout the process we’ll work collaboratively and use tools that make sense for you- which may involve talk therapy, creative exploration, somatic therapy, or a combination of different approaches. Treatment often involves:

  • establishing a relationship in which you feel safe, understood, and cared for.

  • working together to explore how past experiences affect current struggles.

  • learning about your attachment style and how it shows up in relationships.

  • using body-centered interventions, acknowledging that trauma is held in the body.

  • focusing on nervous-system regulation to help you feel more grounded and at peace.

  • empowering you to tap into your strengths.

Trauma-informed care is at the center of my practice. I began my career in domestic violence services, which had a formative impact on my approach. I later joined a group practice using play and creative arts therapy for children and families. While there, I worked as an in-home and outpatient therapist for children ages two and older, teens, and adults. I also began training in play therapy and was a member of the creative arts therapies team.

Working with clients of all ages has taught me that there are common threads between people— young children to adults, from differing backgrounds and cultures— and the struggles we walk with. I believe that in healing parts of ourselves, we bring healing to our families, our communities, and ultimately, to our world.
